Positive Points Program

The Foundation continues to partner with Discover Bank to provide funding for this year-round educational and cultural enrichment program.

The POSITIVE POINTS PROGRAM (PPP) is moving the Tiny House Project to the year 2021. Starting July 2020, PPP will conduct “HOME CAMP – We’re All in This Together” for our teens and children. Camp Activity Supply Packets will be provided for all participants to conduct their activities right at home. These exciting projects will engage the children in positive prevention measures, compassion for others and support for the frontline workers who continue to courageously give themselves during this Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The activities are:

  • SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY ACTIVITY

Simple practices on how to protect yourself and others (educational material)
Make your own mask CONTEST! (prizes)
Community wall canvas painting (using hands and feet)

  • ACKNOWLEDGE THE SERVICE OF OTHERS ACTIVITY

Saying “thank you” to health care workers, police officers, EMT’s, firefighters, grocery store workers, mail carriers, sanitation workers, teachers, neighbors, church, friends, family, city, county and state leaders who continue, during this time, to work so bravely without giving a second thought to their own well-being. It is because of their sacrifices that we continue to have a well-functioning society with all our needs being met.

The “Heart for Heroes” project will consist of five fabric hearts stuffed with cards of encouragement, gratitude, and love from our teens and children. Installed inside those hearts will be a “mechanical heartbeat device” that makes the heartbeat. Each heart will be shipped to the Governor’s Office in the states of DELAWARE, MARYLAND, PENNSYLVANIA, NEW JERSEY & NEW YORK.

  • HONORING OUR HEROES IN ACTION DURING COVID-19

PPP is seeking a “tree” in Delaware to install an art house structure with plaques up the tree in honor of our heroic essential workers during COVID-19.  The house structure will have solar lighting to reflect, “Leaving the light on for you!”.  Updates will be provided.

“A Tiny Vision for a Big Cause”

Moving into 2021, PPP is committed to continuing its vision of constructing two tiny houses to be donated, the Leon Farmhouse and the Arbor Industrial House.  Our children will participate in the building process and the vendors are standing by their commitment to donate building supplies, assist, teach the children, and ensure the houses are beautiful and energy efficient.

We continue to plan a Final Event for August of 2021 at Milford Crossing Apartments, Milford, DE,  to celebrate the completion of our Summer Program, followed by a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to gift the houses.

A “Unihobby” DIY Home Kit will be provided to each participating teen/child so that they can construct their very own personal model home.  These kits are challenging, require imagination and full of fun!  This activity will engage our youth in creativity, brain development, patience training, stress management, focus, concentration, and self-accomplishment.
