Communicating clearly with confidence and poise: The 10th Annual Positive Points Program launches with a lesson in good manners!

Now in its 10th year, the Positive Points Program is an innovative summer academic enrichment program for kids aged 8-18. This is a day-camp style program which helps residents of the low to moderate income properties run by Arbor Management, LLC experience the satisfaction of learning something new, participate in craft activities, make new friends and participate in a program that can make a lasting impression in their future.

Each year, the program revolves around an important central theme — from how to make healthy food choices (2014), to lessons in civics, courage and community service (2011). The annual, 6-week program will launch this summer with a focus on developing confidence, manners and good interpersonal skills.

This year’s program was created to teach kids how manners and communication skills impact all areas of life — from shaking hands with adults, to inviting a friend to the movies, from using online communication and social media to conversational skills, email and cell phone etiquette, and table manners.

In addition, a group of older teens will attend a course provided through Sussex Technical High School in Georgetown, Delaware for a one-day event involved around preparation for that first job. The workshop will cover everything from tips on filling out a job application, to responding to interview questions.

Each year, the Positive Points Program also includes a highly-anticipated Grand Finale where the children can put into practice all that they’ve learned. For 2015, a dinner and talent show put on by the children at the Milford Senior Center will finish out the season in style!

Since its humble beginnings in 2006, the Positive Points program has blossomed into a major coordinated effort spanning several communities throughout Delaware, serving more than 100 children 8-18.
